It began, as many good things do, with a mess: muddy shoes by the door, jam-sticky hands, scraps of paper filled with ideas between stirring pots and raising little ones. We were not trying to start a brand. We were learning how to live more fully on a patch of land in Vermont that seemed to offer its own instructions if you listened carefully enough.
We peeled back old wallpaper, planted a garden, preserved what the season gave us, and found ourselves drawn to work made by hand and shared close to home. Soon, friends began asking for the soap, the salt from our wedding, and the notecards from our little workshop; not because they were perfect, but because they carried the feeling of this place.
So we gave it a name: Saltbox & Company. Not for a corporation, but for the company we keep: neighbors with lilacs from the garden, friends who send notes not notifications, old apple trees along the ridge, and farm dogs who know every path through the woods.
So here’s to slowing down and letting the small things sing: a breeze through an open window, a table full of people, and music drifting like mist through the mountains. However you find yourself listening, we hope Saltbox & Company brings a little charm and a welcome sense of home to your day.
